Boulder City, Nevada, a place of parks and small town
values was created out of the arid desert by the
government. Just 23 short miles from glittering Las
Vegas, the "reservation" of the 1930's has evolved
over the decades. Home to retirees, families, artists
and others, overlooking Lake Mead, just around the
corner from Hoover Dam, and up the hill from Las Vegas
our town has something for everyone.
The
historic Boulder Dam Hotel, once a stopping place for
the celebrities and royalty in those early days, now
revitalized and home to the Chamber of Commerce, the
Boulder City Arts Council, the Hoover Dam Museum, fine
boutiques and an excellent restaurant.
Listed
on the National Register of Historic Places, Boulder
City has a fascinating history as the first "planned
community" in America. It was designed and built to
provide shelter to thousands of workers on the Hoover
Dam (then known as The Boulder Canyon Project). Held
over from its early beginnings, there is still no
gambling permitted in Boulder City, the only community
in Nevada with that distinction. The well preserved
Historic District provides a glimpse of the 1930's.
